How to Get It
Need emergency care?
When you’re sick or hurt with an injury and you can’t get to your primary care provider (PCP), you should go to an urgent care center or the emergency room (ER). Our nurses or your own PCP can help you decide which is best. You can also visit our Emergency Room Use page, which provides tips that can help you make the right decision. Or take a look at the following symptoms to help you know where to go when you need medical care.
Choose urgent care if you have these symptoms:
- Cold, flu or sore throat
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Common sprain
- Minor broken bone
- Minor cuts
- Mild asthma/allergic reactions
- Rash without fever
Remember, urgent care clinics treat people the same day. You don't need an appointment.
Choose the ER if you have these symptoms:
- Chest pain, difficulty breathing
- Head and eye injuries
- Uncontrolled bleeding, severe cuts
- Very bad broken bone
- Coughing up or vomiting blood
- Bleeding during pregnancy
- Fever in a baby under 8 weeks
- Rash with a fever
These are only a few examples. For any life-threatening illness or injury, call 911 right away.
