How to Get Help If You Need It
August 21, 2024
Many teens today are feeling anxious or depressed. If you think you may be struggling with this, there is help out there for you.
Where do you start? Who can you trust?
Here are people you can reach out to:
- Mom/stepmom, dad/stepdad, other parental figures or an older sibling
- Older relative, such as a cousin, aunt or uncle, or grandparent
- Parent or guardian of a close friend or a neighbor
- Teacher, coach or school counselor
- Faith leader such as a minister or priest
Sometimes it can be hard to find someone you feel comfortable talking to. Get suggestions from a friend if you’re still not sure where to go.
Remember: Many people care about you. Be brave and keep asking for help!
To talk to someone who can offer information, resources and support:
- Call the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) at 800-950-NAMI (6264).
- Text “Helpline” to 62640.
- Email helpline@nami.org.
